Shhh…the secret’s out! How to make your oils easier to use!

Roller ball tops….OH MY!

I wanted to pass along some advice that I wish I knew when I started using essential oils….BUY ROLLER BALL TOPS (actually called AromaGlide Roller Fitments #4578) from Young Living to make your life way easier!  If you didn’t already know, you get one of these shiny little gems with your Premium Starter Kit.  And like most people, I popped it right onto the Stress Away Essential Oil that also came in the kit and voila, a super easy to use roller bottle for one of my daily-use oils!  Perfect to take along in your purse or travel bag or put right on your night stand to use when you wake to help start the day!

roller-fitments

As you may know, Young Living offers three oils that already come in a roller bottle for ease of use and I have to say, Deep Relief Roll-on #3534 is by far my most used, favorite oil.  I make sure to have a bottle everywhere I may need one (especially in my gym bag and on my desk at work)! In addition to Deep Relief, they also have Breathe Again Roll-on #3528 (the name says it all) and Tranquil Roll-On #3533 (amazing blend to support healthy sleep and as the name suggest is very calming) which are also in my go-to roller stash!

What I didn’t know though, is that I could purchase the roller tops from Young Living and turn some of my other favorite oils into amazing, easy to use, roll-ons!  There are so many oils I use on a daily base that I don’t dilute so when I realized I could purchase these, I was in heaven!  I realized I used these oils 100% more when they have the roller-top on because it is just so easy!  Here are the oils I pop the roller ball on (and I have multiple of them too so I never have to go far to find it)…

roller-tops

  • Frankincense Essential Oil #3548: I use this EVERY day before I put my face moisturizer on to help support healthy skin. With the roller top on it, I just swipe it over those areas that need some extra love and not only does it support my skin but I get the benefits of the uplifting aroma too! Everyone NEEDS to add this to their beauty routine!
  • Fitness Inspired by Oola #5057: I can say enough about this blend. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! As the site indicates, this oil blend ‘has been specially formulated to uplift, energize, and give you the inspiration to set and achieve your strength and fitness goals’….and it truly does. I roll this on the back of my neck and wrists before I hop on the treadmill or hit play on my workout video and I notice I push a little harder or longer every time.  I don’t workout without this one!
  • Abundance Essential Oil #3300: This one does indicate to dilute on the bottle but I don’t (do what you are comfortable with). I just added the roller top on and faithfully use this every morning (and multiple times throughout the day as I’m working).  I keep it right next to my computer and roll it my wrists or neck and I just find it very uplifting and it helps me go above and beyond my normal tasks.  I also LOVE putting this in my diffuser necklace too!
  • Progessence Plus Serum #4640: I LOVE this blend. It contains Bergamot (which is one of my favorite oils) and it is part of my daily skin care regime as it helps moisturize and soothe healthy-looking skin.  It contains Frankincense too so it helps soothe those fine lines!
  • Cedarwood Essential Oil #3509: This one my husband uses DAILY to support healthy hair help give that added shine! He rolls it right onto his scalp nightly and gets the calming beneifits of it’s earthy aroma!
  • Shutran Essential Oil #4835: This is another one of my husband’s everyday oils. He rolls it on his forearms in place of cologne and it promotes feelings of vitality, masculinity, confidence, and energy.  He definitely notices a difference if he doesn’t wear it (and so do I)!
  • Thieves Essential Oil #3423: This one I DO dilute BEFORE I put the roller top because I use it on my whole family. I just took an old Thieves bottle filled it with 1/3 Thieves and 2/3 Young Living’s V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex #3031 (or another carrier you are have on hand) and you are ready to go!  This is perfect to roll on my little one’s feet, take while traveling, or even for use after my kids hit the bounce house or park!  The benefits of Thieves are AMAZING! It smells great and the immune support it provides is a must have!

So, if you haven’t already, order these roller fitments and you won’t be sorry!  They truly do make using your oils so easy.

Toy Review: TeenyMates

Product(s): TeenyMates (NHL and NFL)
Manufacturer: Party Animal
Website: www.teenymates.com
Phone #: 800-456-4415

Overall Grade: A+ (their customer service is AWESOME!!!!)

Kid Review:  2 thumbs up

This review is for multiple products in the TeenyMates product line:
• TeenyMates
• Lil’ Teammates
• TeenyMates Big Sip

TeenyMates (age 4+):
teenymatesLet me preface that our kids were 2 and 3 years old when we first purchased these which I would say is too young for these toys since they are only an inch tall and the perfect size for little mouths. Our kids were not known to put them things in their mouths so it was not an issue for us but if you child does, you should wait until the suggested age on the packaging of 4+.

We first started off getting the blind bags of NHL and NFL guys for our boys and they LOVED them. Again, only being 2 and 3, they just liked lining them up and carrying them around (perfect size for their little hands). We just always made sure to watch them while they were playing with the TeenyMates to make sure they didn’t put them in their mouths! They were lucky that they didn’t get too many repeats but they weren’t getting the teams they liked either. So, we ended up purchasing the complete set of NHL and NFL players as gifts for Christmas. Even though we’ll have multiples, they are easy to lose/misplace since they are so small, so it’s good to have extras!

The quality and detail is great for how little the guys are and there aren’t any loose parts to break off or lose. After playing with them for a significant amount of time, the letting/paint didn’t seem to rub off. Our only complaint is the one logo on a NHL guy (in the complete set) looked faded and hard to read (and it was the team my kids like). Before we even opened the packaging, I wrote to the customer service and let them know the issue. This is where their A+ rating comes in…customer service! The representative (Beth) responded quickly and offered to send me a replacement guy immediately. I received the package a few days later (for no charge) and she actually sent two guys (same team, different poses)! She included her business card with a hand written note which was a nice, personal touch. I actually followed up with her regarding an issue we had with the Big Sip (I’ll discuss later) and she was just a courteous and responsive and went above and beyond my expectations. I can’t say enough for their customer service!
Cons:
• They are small so easy to misplace

Pros:
• Durable – don’t show wear after significant amount of play
• Provide hours of fun!
• Makes my kids happy!

Lil’ Teammates (age 4+):
oilers-lil-teammateWe purchased these right after we bought the kids their first teenymates since these were bigger. Again, the boys were only 2 and 3 and I was worried the teenymates were too little for them but they loved them. We found these and bought one for each of them and they loved them too. They are nice because they are larger than the teenymates and the head turns but none of the parts can be removed so there is no concern about losing pieces. The boys definitely play with these and tend to bring them in the car more often than the teenymates but I still find they play with the teenymates more (most likely because they have more of them). Also, same as the teenymates, we haven’t noticed the color rubbing off after a lot play so the quality is good. No complaints!
Cons:
• None

Pros:
• Durable – don’t show wear after significant amount of play
• Approximately 3 inches tall so good for smaller kids (my 2 and 3 year old love them)
• Easily fits into your purse for when your kids needs ‘distraction’ when you are out and about!

TeenyMates Big Sip (age: 4+):

dolphins-big-sipWe were vacationing in Myrtle Beach, SC and went into a sports store and saw these ADORABLE ‘cups’ and just had to purchase our NFL favorite teams. I can’t say these are the most practical drinking cups because they have little nooks and crannies where the liquid go so we only let our kids put water in them for easier cleaning. They are BPA-free and hold 16 oz. They do have a straw and stop-cap but the cap does fall off easily. There a few issues with these but nothing major that would stop me from giving them to someone as a gift or buying NHL ones (if they made them).

Cons:
• They are difficult to dry (back to the nooks and crannies) and why I only use water in them. My kids are young I know if put milk in them and they let them sit a little too long…as kids do…they would be hard to clean.
• The cap comes off easily and is easy to misplace.
• The head screws on and off and the liquid goes in the body. The head is akward to screw on and it just keeps turning and doesn’t get tight. My kids have thought they screwed it on only to pick it and take to take a drink and it ends up spilling (another reason I only use water in it)

Pros:
• They are adorable!
• Perfect to use on game day!
• Definitely a conversation piece!

Patch Testing – We finally have some answers!

Skin Irritant: 1, Three Year Old: 0….NOT FOR LONG!

I want to share a bit of my son’s story as I finally see some light at the end of the tunnel and maybe it will help you too.  Very long story short (not really)…my almost 4 year old son has been experiencing severe skin issues for the past 2 years.   It’s been diagnosed as eczema and seems to get worse when it’s hot and humid outside and it also gets exacerbated by other things (which we have been trying to figure out the triggers for over a year).  I have read multiple articles that sympathize with us and basically say it’s really hard to determine triggers but I think we finally have a potential winner.  For anyone that struggles with eczema or has kids that do, you know how frustrating it gets!

After numerous skin prick tests and elimination processes, we did find out he has some standard allergies (cats, dogs, dust, ragweed, grass….yeah, pretty much all the things little boys love).  He takes an OTC allergy medicine daily and it does help with sneezing, itchy eyes, and runny nose but nothing has stopped the skin irritations.  We help maintain his healthy skin with ointments and oils but just when we think we have it under control, it comes back worse.  We have even purchased air purifiers in our home and changed out all our detergents and his shampoos/body wash to free and clear brands (I’ve listed what we use below).   His dermatologist finally decided to do patch testing on him to see if we can pinpoint something specific.

Well, I had no idea what patch testing was and couldn’t find anyone who has had it done.  So, it was a little scary for a 3 year old but he did awesome!  It started with him getting 50 tests/patches on his back on a Monday.  He had to keep them on until Wednesday and the dermatologist checked for irritations.  He had to go back on Friday to see if anything else became irritated.  The hardest part of the whole process was not getting them wet!  So, no baths for a week in the middle of August for an active 3 year was not fun, but we managed.

What did we find out?  One patch stood out as an irritant…drumroll, please…. Methylisothiazolinone (MI for short).  Say what?!?!   Apparently it’s in a lot of shampoos, cosmetics, detergents, etc. and is a very common allergen.  Google it…I had no idea!  So the dermatologist’s first question was what do we use on him. Luckily, over the past 2 years of issues, we only use what was recommended by our dermatologist on him and after checking, they DON’T contain MI.  Whew…  So then how is he coming in contact with it?  Our detergent?  Nope, we changed that too. He then asked what shampoo my husband and I use….there you have it!  Both of our shampoos have MI but I couldn’t imagine it was what was causing his issues. Then I started thinking…our routine is that I usually shower as they are winding down with my husband before bed. Then I will lay with my son for 10 minutes or so as he falls asleep.  This means, my hair is wet and freshly shampooed and I never re-wash my hands after a shower.  So, I’m on his pillow and he always likes when I ‘tickle’ his hair or face which seems to put him to sleep. Well, where have his biggest irritations been…his face and scalp!  No!  I’ve been doing this my son?  I know, I had no idea and can’t blame myself but wow, I never would have thought my shampoo would irritate his skin.

So, where do we go from here?  Well, we just found this out today so we’re just starting to work on this. I’m obviously going to get a new shampoo/conditioner and be sure to check every label we use around the house.   I will keep you posted in a few weeks if it seems we’ve actually pinpointed the main trigger and how we’re managing.    The good news is that A LOT of what we are using for him already is clear of Methylisothiazolinone but you have to look in places you didn’t even think, like dish soap!  As you know from my other posts, I use Young Living Essential Oils and a lot of their household and beauty products. So I immediately looked into their products and to my joy, they DON’T use it any of the products we use in our house AND they even specifically call it out on the product flyer for their new dish soap. I’m sure I saw this disclaimer when I bought the soap but didn’t think twice about it!  Well, it just makes me that much happier to and confident with their products!

I’ll update you in a few weeks and let you know if we’ve seen a difference (I pray we will).  I can’t believe he’s struggled with this for so long and turns out to be an allergy to something that shouldn’t even be in products!  One big red flag I’ve noticed is that a lot of products (specifically cleaning products) didn’t even put the ingredients on their label and I had to go to the internet to find it!   All I know now, is I will read EVERY label and buy our household products from a trusted source that discloses the ingredients on labels (like Young Living)!

Here are some of the products we’ve found that DON’T have MI or Fragrance:

*Exederm Non-Irritating Baby Shampoo

*Exederm Non-Irritating Baby Bath Wash

*Young Living: all products – I called and asked…they don’t put MI or Fragrance into ANY of their products!  We now use their shampoos, conditions, body wash, soap, dish soap, dishwasher soap, laundry detergent, household cleaner, moisturizers and lotions, and even shaving cream!  Find our more HERE!
